Rebelman Triathlon in Review
The 7th
annual Rebelman Triathlon was a success once again. The event, which consisted
of a 440 meter swim, a 22 km bike ride through parts of campus and down Old
Sardis Road, and a 5k run throughout the campus, was dedicated to the memory of
Cevser Ermin.
Ermin was a
student here at the university before she was tragically killed when a vehicle
struck her while she was riding her bike down Old Sardis Road last fall.
A total of 237
people entered the race last Sunday, including many university teams such as
Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Southern Mississippi, Memphis, Georgia, and
Georgia Tech as well as many individuals. Contestants came as far as from St.
Louis and Virginia to participate in the race. The cost of admission was $65.
The
triathlon was organized by the Parks and Recreation Graduate Program and ran by its graduate students and race director Chad Caldwell. Over 100 undergrad
student volunteers showed up to help out with the competition.
“I think it
turned out really well. We had more
contestants this year than ever before. It looked like everyone was having
a great time”. Brent Johnson, Co director of triathlon and
graduate student.
The overall
winner of the triathlon was Paul Press, age 30, from
Collierville,Tennessee. He finished in 1
hour, 2 minutes, and 39 seconds. http://www.racesonline.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=public.race_detail&race_id=6448

race was a nonprofit event. Any money donated went directly to the Parks and
