Ole Miss Women's Tennis Team in SEC Tournament

OLE MISS WOMEN'S TENNIS TEAM IN SEC TOURNAMENT

The University of Mississippi Ladies Tennis team is ranked #4 in the country this year.  This past weekend, they played in the SEC Tournament.  The event was held at 2pm and admission was free to students upon proof of student id.

There was a free event at the Sig Ep house across from the tennis matches and a Jimmy Buffett cover band could be heard from the bleachers.  Parents of Florida tennis players commented, "I don't think the girls can even hear it they're in the zone."  The game was really intense.
Doubles were held first.  Abby Guthrie from New Zealand and her teammate Kristy Boxx from Mississippi on the left and Gabby Rangle with her teammate Erin Stephens on the right.
Rangle and Stephens were the first to finish with a score of 8-1.  Although they put up a good fight, Florida came away with the win.  Guthrie and Boxx were very close to winning and their game went into overtime.  Guthrie's strength and Boxx's quick reflexes made them a great team. Florida picked up Boxx's lack of upper body strength and began to target her with every ball.
Although they tried to wear her out, Boxx was strong and had a lot of incredible plays.  The game went into overtime and was neck to neck the whole time.  In the last ten seconds, Florida scored two quick points and the game was over. Guthrie's room mate, Nicole, commented, "It's so sad when the game is so close and it's over just like that."  The Lady Rebels put up a great fight and a close game with Florida will only increase our rankings over time.  Check out the Ole Miss Athletics Roster for more Rebel Tennis events at http://www.olemisssports.com/sports/w-tennis/ole-w-tennis-body.html.
