Mad Dash for the
Derby
For the last week the Ole Miss
campus has been crawling with eager sorority girls in search of the prized
derby. Every year Sigma Chi holds Derby Day in the spring semester. During the
week of Derby Day the men of Sigma Chi will hide a derby anywhere on campus.
Sigma Chi’s put up new clues out side of their fraternity house each day. One
of the greatest accomplishments in the derby competition is finding the actual
derby itself.
During the week of Derby Day the
men of Sigma Chi will hide a derby anywhere on campus. Sigma Chi’s put up new
clues out side of their fraternity house each day. One of the greatest
accomplishments in the derby competition is finding the actual derby itself.
On April 10 the first clue was
presented outside of Sigma Chi. “We were
all really excited to see what the clues were going to be. You have no idea
where the derby will be.”said Tyna Kyriakopoulos a member of Kappa Alpha Theta.

Sorority members search high and
low for the derby all day long. Nicole Beasley from Kappa Alpha Theta said, “
We spent all day out in the Grove, the Lyceum, and the Union. The clues can be
very tricky so you can’t leave any place untouched.”
Many girls search all day and night
for the derby. Derby Day has always been very intense at Ole Miss especially
because finding the derby puts you in the lead for the rest of the competition.
On April 11 the second clue was
posted. “When we saw the second clue we knew that Theta would find the derby.
We all knew it had to be in the library.”
Early in the morning women from
Kappa Alpha Theta found the derby on a book in J.D. Williams Library. “This is
a big deal for Theta, we have never found the derby and it just shows what hard
work we put into finding it.” says Kyriakopoulos.
