Ole Miss Green Week

Ole Miss celebrates Green Week

Ole Miss students and faculty may have noticed the signs around campus explaining the environmental impact of everything from parking to tree loss. This is all a part of “Green Week” a program sponsored by the university and several student organizations around campus.

The event was designed to bring more awareness of environmental issues to Ole Miss.

Taylor Cook, a student leader of the group Campus for Clean Energy and Udall Scholar, said this week has been important for her group. “We have been trying for a long time to help students learn more about environmental issues. We’re glad the university has taken this step to help us,” said Cook.

Fellow CCE member Zachary Jarjoura said Green Week has helped the organization gain several new members. “A lot of students here at Ole Miss are very concerned with the environment, but they don’t know how to get involved. Green Week is a great way to put the university’s environmentalist organizations in the public eye,” said Jarjoura.

Activities this week have included events ranging from guest lectures to a “Green Fashion Show” which featured clothing made out of recyclable materials.

Cook hopes this will become a regular event at Ole Miss. “I look forward to next year’s Green Week. Hopefully, we can make it even bigger and better than this one,” said Cook.
