Waypoint: Fresh Mississippi Sound

Mississippi's music scene is constantly thriving and local talent is all around. It's hard to keep up with all of these bands, but it's not hard to like Jackson-based Waypoint. The band is composed of (from left to right) Salar Almacky (Ole Miss), Cody Bass (Northwest Rankin), Travis Bass (Southern Mississippi), and Justin Moreira (Southern Mississippi).
The ages of these up and coming musicians range from a senior in high school to juniors in college. Their sound shows the difference in ages and all of the musical influences from each of the different stages of their young adult life.
Salar Almacky lives in Deaton dorm and had some time to talk about Waypoint, "Our band has been together for about two years now, and we've toured across the Southern United States. We were featured on a radio station in Connecticut and most recently, we played with Colour Revolt which is an almost famous Oxford band." Between school and his band Salar is busy with work but still has time to enjoy Ole Miss.
The band has played in Oxford a few times with other Mississippi bands such as: The Weeks, Colour Revolt, Frames, and many others. They've played at the Lyric and Proud Larry's on given weeknights.
One of the most interesting things about Waypoint is their main influence. The loss of their bassist and best friend during an accident in August 2011 sparked the release of their first full length album Good & Well. This album has been sold since on iTunes, at local shows, and even in some record stores and although they suffered a great loss, the band has been doing nothing but progressing since.
The band has merchandise ranging from the album to T-shirt designs. All designed by the band members making them a self-produced band. Check them out for contact and listen to them at http://www.facebook.com/waypointms or http://waypoint.bigcartel.com/
