Hotty Toddy
Run for the Roses
The inaugural Hotty Toddy Run for the Roses event took place
this past Saturday on the Ole Miss campus. The event included a 5k run and
walk, as well as a one-mile run for children.
The event was hosted by the active members of the Alpha
Omicron Pi Sorority and their alumnae association. The run was open to the
public.
The proceeds from the race benefit a scholarship in memory
of Dr. Candy Carlisle Derivaux, of Vicksburg. The
Alpha Omicron Pi’s departed sister was extremely active in the Oxford
community. Her family was present during the race.
Kelly Litzelfelner, a freshman participant,
expresses her excitement about the race. She says, “I was really looking
forward to the race on Saturday. I felt so lucky to be able to contribute to
such a great cause.” Gretchen Meuller, of St. Louis, says, “the race definitely
helped me train for a marathon I’m running in June and, it helped support my
sisters.”
The race began at approximately 7am on
Saturday, April 21st. Registration began at 6am. T-shirts were
provided during registration.
Donations to the scholarship fund are still
accepted from the public and all participants. Any size donation is accepted.
