The Competition of the Year: Derby Days
This week marks Sigma Chi’s big week, Derby week. Derby week
is a week of events that Sigma Chi puts on to raise money for their
philanthropy. To make more involvement on the campus they have made it a
competition between all nine sororities.
The competition consists of who can raise the most money
with pennies, who can find the hidden derby, who has the most blood donations,
and finally the games and dance competition on Saturday. This week brings out
the competitive side in all sororities. Sororities practice everyday of derby
week and all night and strategize for the derby hunt.
For the past four years the Delta Gammas won the
competition. Maddie Schutte, a freshmen DG, said, “ the past four years DG has
won and we are trying to make it a 5th year. We are strategizing and
practicing as hard as we can in order to get that 5th win.”
This year Theta found the derby on Wednesday night at the
library. They found with only two clues. The clue led them to a book that was
written by William Faulkner. Emily Benz,
a freshman Theta, said “I was so excited when I found out Theta found the
Derby. It was so unexpected for us to find it because DG always finds it. It’s
about time for a change.”
This upcoming weekend will be the weekend that will reveal
the champion of Derby week. There are many close races, but there is only one
winner. Who do you think it will be?
