Blood Donations for Derby Days
Blood is
being spilled this week in Oxford, but for a good cause. Sigma Chi fraternity
has been holding blood donations over the past week. Throughout the day donors
can stop by the Sigma Chi and donate while hanging out with friends and fellow
donors.
The event is
part of Sigma Chis Derby Days which is a weeklong event in which sororities
compete in different events. The blood donation is a big part of the weeks
events and many sororities try their hardest to have people donate in their
name.
The blood drive is hosted by Mississippi Blood Services which is a
not-for-profit blood service, founded in 1979. Their mission is to provide a
safe supply of voluntarily donated blood and blood components for patients in
hospitals and to offer related services to our hospitals and other medical
facilities.
Mississppi blood services is the only FDA licensed blood center headquartered in Mississippi, created to manage the state's blood supply. They service 49 hospitals across the state.

Freshman Tri-Delt Mary Johnson felt
like the blood donation went quick and smoothly. “They got me right in and
right out and were so nice the whole time”.
